Short essay on art lecture-Wendy Hsieh

I went to a Fine Arts Lecture Serious hosted by Ann Magnuson on April 1st. She is a performance artist/actress. First, I saw a music video and she was the actress in the video who sang and danced throughout the video. Then she started to introduce herself and began to talk about her works when she was younger. She went to serious of pictures explaining her experience with media. She majored in theater and media when she was in university. After that she went to London then found an intern job in New York in 1800’s. She handed out some newsletters made by her which were all done by hand only because they didn’t have computer back in 1800’s. Those newsletters all looked great and neat, it is hard to believe that they all made by hand only not computer. Then she played a really interesting clip made for television for us called “Channel Switch Video” which was film by her friend and she was the only actress in 1883-1884. That video is like the situation that you are watch television and change channels. All different channels are with the same actress Ann Magnuson but with different customs, looks, ages, gender and accent. It is a funny video and with creative idea. I can see that Ann Magnuson is a really good actress. She used a quote by Martha Graham, which was great said “there s a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you un all of the time, this is expression is unique. And, if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost…It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.”
