Billie Heitzman- Self Portrait

The idea behind this piece were the memories that have made me who I am.  Looking back upon them now, the memories are often unclear, yet they still have significance to me.  Another person who views this picture may be able to assess what is being portrayed but would not understand the the meaning behind it, just as I cannot clearly explain how these events have impacted the person I've become.

  1. I really like the technique you used to make this picture because it is somewhat reminiscent of an Andy Warhol silkscreen. I also like the way you didn't fully color in the black part but used scribbles instead. It really works with your idea of how memories are often blurry and unclear.

  3. The explanation coupled with the piece really makes this a great self portrait. The person on the right captures my attention and makes me look even beyond the picture itself and in general obviously captures a happy and important moment in your memories. I also really liked the detail of the pencil swirls that can only be seen at a close distance. The explanation that some of these memories are unclear but still important makes sense with your method and how the picture is not an exact tracing but only the dark and light parts of the image
