Myra Yepez | self portrait

Instead of a traditional portrait, I wanted to convey a part of myself that while extremely public, at the same time is very private- the mouth. While straight, white teeth are conventionally thought to be more beautiful, I wanted to inject my own imperfect set with some strange sense of beauty.

  1. Out of all of the works done for this assignment I think that your design really says a lot about you and fulfills the definition of a self portrait. The technique alone is great, but the positioning of the mouth and the shadow it sheds allow it to stand alone.

  2. I really like this piece because it is not only representative of your technical skills and talent, but it also shows character. the negative space is nice in contrast to the lips and teeth. I also like that the mouth is off centered but the weight is almost even because of the small freckle on the upper right lip.

  3. When looking at the self-portraits, this piece immediately caught my eye. I really admire the bottom lip, which (particularly in person) is stunningly realistic. I also love the fact that so much can be said and interpreted from a drawing of a mouth...especially since every person truly has a unique bite mark and set of teeth, making this an ideal concept for a "self-portrait."
