My self portrait represents my Swiss heritage through the earring. I chose to make it completely black and white except for the earring to provide contrast and significance. I removed the word "portrait" to give the design less of a framed feel. Leaving the word "self" implies that it is not merely a picture of an ear but a depiction of an identity.
I like the stark contrast of this piece and the stylized drawing of the ear. I think the piece feels a lot less cluttered with the removal of portrait, and it also seems a lot more significant.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I feel that with less clutter, your earring is emphasized a lot more this way and the composition is more sound. I really love how bold and comic-like this piece is.
